E-B meets w the 4 Premiers and Federal Ministers….
A couple of weeks ago, the federal and provincial Liberal Party had their summit in Moncton. We are so appreciative of the whole hour that they dedicated to listening to Engineering Brightness.
This is a great example of transdisciplinary STEAM projects and what education could be. Students learned all of disciplines in an authentic, integrated way. In addition to STEM, they had to learn political protocols, how to draw people in, public speaking in front of real people for a real purpose and how to answer impromptu questions in the spotlight. There was no separation of disciplines.

Students had a chance to practice public speaking in front of Premiers, Ministers, entourage and photographers. We gave a small educational philosophy chat.
Two E-B Alum and now University students spoke about how their experience with E-B impacted their studies and future. One was selected to do medical research as a first year student that uses 3D printed pieces to help focus radiation on cancer tumours.
The other gained the confidence to speak in crowds and to “work a crowd” because of his experience speaking at Princeton and ISTE Denver for E-B. While he was studying architecture, he kept thinking of the E-B philosophy -“the purpose of learning to help someone”. He could not easily see this philosophy in architecture. So he switched schools and majors to look at public policy and law. The student who could not speak in school…ever… is now interacting very well with a whole room of politicians and considering law with social justice.
Engineering Brightness is changing the lives of our field testers who receive the lights for field work. But today, it is about the changed lives that E-B is making on the designers right here in our own local school.
